Productivity Hack Friday: Ride to work on a bike, not in a car

By

Bicycles are magical. They create memories of childhood, exploring the local area and experiencing freedom for the first time. But they shouldn’t just be for children, we adults can ride them too!

You may wonder why a full grown adult would ride a bicycle when we now have these wonderful machines called cars. After all, cars are fast, easy and require very little effort. But consider this – they cost a lot of money, both for the car itself and the fuel and maintenance. They also produce a lot of CO2 and in no way help you get exercise.

A bike of the other hand burns calories, keeps you fit and healthy, costs nothing (after the initial purchase) and produces no CO2 (okay, well, you still have to breath out some of the stuff). Better yet, for those of us living in cities (where traffic is at a near standstill) those on bikes manage to get to work faster than anyone in a car or public transport.

Did you know exercise improves your brain power and helps you work better? By cycling to work you will end up getting more work done and to a higher quality. It’s pretty simple to start cycling, especially if your work is part of a Ride2Work scheme or similar.

Cycling is the cheapest and easiest productivity hack to make, yet only 2% of the UK commute to work by bike. Is it not strange how we willingly pay for expensive petrol and car costs, over an inexpensive device proven to improve your health? Why not discuss this on Twitter, with hashtag #bikevscar.

Today we’re taking a pedibus around London so businesses can take their meetings on the go! Why not follow the day on our live blog here.
