Being stuck inside on a hot, sunny summer’s day is something that unites everybody working in an office, and we know it’s a regular conversation point on the warmer afternoons around here. But while this is just a mild annoyance for some, the actual concerns are a little more pressing.
In research commissioned by BT Business Insight, the majority of city workers see less than an hour of sunlight a day, with 22% seeing less than 20 minutes (which is never going to be enough to get a tan).
Two-thirds of those surveyed said that this depresses them, and we can all understand why. Luckily, with Anywhere Working you can combat this by taking a few flexible days off.
With an increased number of outdoor cafes, restaurants, and general outdoor spaces receiving the Wi-Fi treatment, there are far more ways to be in the sun and working at the same time than there were before.
There are a few things to bare in mind though.
- Being in direct sunlight for too long increases your chance of getting skin cancer, so make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen if you are going to be out in it for too long.
- Sunlight is never particularly useful for looking at computer screens and so don’t rely on using your computer in direct sunlight. Instead, this can be a great time for you to catch up on work, which doesn’t involve your computer.
- Finally, being outside in the fresh air and sunlight can improve your mood, but don’t let it distract you - you are still working. Remember that you have the advantage of being able to enjoy the summer and work at the same time.
